Women Ensembles in Indian Music

As we celebrate women’s history month in March lets take a look at women ensembles in Indian music beginning with Sthree Taal Tarang a percussion team led by ghatam maestro Sukanya Ramgopal.

A violin-venu-veena carnatic ensemble with Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi (violin), Mala Chandrasekhar (flute), Revathy Krishna(veena), Rajna Swaminathan (mrudangam), Sukanya Ramgopal(ghatam) Bhagyalakshmi (morsing)

Viva the first female pop band in India that was formed in 2002 and has since been disbanded. However they did break the bias inspiring others to follow their path.

Upcoming female percussionists playing at the Dumru Festival in Mumbai.

The Vinyl Records, a rock band from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
