HumRaag
Where Classical Meets Popular Music

About
What is it about music that jogs memories, alters moods and moves us all? HumRaag seeks to answer this through a multimedia experience that weaves together contemporary and golden oldies of filmi gaane, classical music and a universal story. The audio, video and musical storytelling will help the audience experience that ragas are everywhere especially in popular music songs.
From Bollywood classics Ajnabee to Zanjeer in Hindi or for that matter, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu movie songs are filled with music that are strongly rooted in classical music. The presentation will feature snippets of these songs, live performance showcasing the classical roots - the ragas or melodies they are based on, and a brief exploration of these ragas and their forms in both Carnatic and Hindustani traditions.
HumRaag which started as a collaborative project with writer Shoba Narayan debuted in BIC and was later presented at Unnati Centre (Bangalore), Bharat Kalachar, Vani Mahal (Chennai), Indian School of Business (Hyderabad) and a workshop based on this program was conducted for parents and children at the Times of India Literary Festival in Mumbai.
Here are some snippets of HumRaag.
