BHAKTHI: A Musical Journey With Mystics – comes to Detroit

My latest program BHAKTHI – a musical journey with mystics comes to Detroit. The concert will be preceded by a short talk in which I discuss mysticism, the role of music and how mystics across time and cultures have evolved a shared experience that speaks to us even today.
Prof Mark Stone from Oakland U will be joining us on the kanjira for the concert.
Hope to see you all there.

Recent concert in Malleswaram

Recently I had a most interesting experience at a temple concert in Malleswaram. The power went out, as it is wont to in Bangalore, right in the middle of the concert. The generator did not kick in immediately and so we ended up playing in the dark, with an emergency lamp providing light. Check it out right here.

Mysore concert

just got back last Monday from Mysore. I had given a concert in the city’s oldest sabha Nada brahma Sangeetha Sabha. My guru Seethalakshmi mami was honoured with the title “Nada Brahma” by the sabha. The main piece of my concert was Marachithivemo nannu”(Purvikalyani), a kriti of Mysore Vasudevacharya – the concert was held in Vasudevacharya Bhavan and the organizers wanted me to include a composition of his in my concert.

Rain, IPL and a kutcheri…

As a south Bangalorean, I had been waiting for an opportunity to perform in the centre of town. The call to perform at the Odukattur Mutt in Ulsoor, was a wish come true. In my excitement, I forgot to have my usual case of nerves prior to a big concert. Then the week before the concert the early monsoons threatened to drown Bangalore. And the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings decided to make my big night, their big night as well. Lest you chew the rest of your fingernails, my Carnatic vocal concert did go off well thanks to the regular rasikas of the Odukattur Mutt and the stalwart support of my accompanists.
