Β Even as the calendar year winds down, musical innovation and opportunities have been ratcheting up. In this issue we continue our “One song, Many renditions” series as well as look at a musical exploration of birds in Indian poetry and celebrate the works of Kannada poets. One Song Many Renditions We continue our series “One song, Many renditions” with a Hindustani bandish “Charan Dhar Aayo” and carnatic composer Gopalakrishna Bharathi’s song “Sabhapati Veru Dheivam” sung by different musicians. The more we listen to different musicians presenting the same raga or song, the more we appreciate its nuances and gain newer perspective. One song, Many renditions – 2 Udaan – Flights of Fancy, a musical exploration of birds in Indian poetry was presented at the Bangalore International Centre earlier this month. The Hindu interviewed me to understand the motivations behind this project. The article is attached. Udaan – Playlist Nityotsava – A Vachana & Dasa Sahitya Celebration Kannada has a long tradition of beautiful poetry and music such as vachana and dasa sahitya. Nityotsava is a musical celebration of the creative works of Kannada mystic poets Akka Mahadevi, Allama Prabhu, Basavanna to Kanakadasa, Purandaradasa and others. As part of Unboxing BLR Habba, BIC Elsewhere is presenting my latest program Nityotsava – A Vachana & Dasa Sahitya celebration across multiple venues in Bangalore.
